MARLE HILL. We are deeply saddened to report the demise of Marle Hill CC in Gloucestershire who for several seasons have provided worthy opposition for our Slaughters XI captained by exiled Scouser John Jones. In common with many small village clubs the last few seasons had been real difficult for Marle Hill. They had to withdraw their Saturday XI from The Cotswolds District League at the end of the 2015 season and despite the gargantuan efforts of a dedicated band of enthusiasts effectively ceased to exist by the close of last season. Several of their members, including long standing Fixture Secretary Bob Phillips have now joined Slaughters in order to form a Sunday XI and we hope to be able to organise a joint fixture with them against suitable opponents in 2018.
ORMSKIRK OCCASIONALS. This year Ormskirk Occasionals celebrate their 26th season of playing social cricket. This is a tremendous achievement given the year on year decline in the levels of participation in the wider cricket community. Like ourselves The Occasionals endeavour to both preserve and promote the finest traditions of our wonderful game and it is therefore more than coincidental that over recent years a number of players have represented both clubs. One such player, Malcolm Gregg, combines the roles of Occasionals Club Captain and Ramblers Patron and his sterling efforts are hugely appreciated by the members of both organisations. During the coming season there are several dates when The Ramblers do not have fixtures scheduled. On three of these dates, June 11th, August 13th and August 20th. The Occasionals have fixtures at Mobberley, Corwen and Upton respectively. If you are able to play on any of these dates please let Malcolm know well in advance of each game. In addition to a comprehensive Sunday fixture list The Occasionals also run an extensive programme of mid-week games. The majority of these are on Tuesdays, the same evening as most of our Wyncote XI fixtures, although several fall on other evenings. Should you be able to play in any of these games Malcolm would be delighted to hear from you. He can be contacted on 07764-412517.
PADDINGTON BEARS. This season The Bears have eight midweek fixtures against Northern(May 4th), Prescot&Odyssey(May 25th), Wirral Stags(June 7th), Coton Hall(June 16th), Dalton(June 29th), Sefton Park(July 20th), Barnton(August10th) and Madeley(August 31st). All are evening games apart from the Madeley fixture which is a 1.30pm start.
